Project duration: Three years (April 2016- March 2019)
Funding agency:Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), New Delhi.
I have completed my graduation in zoology and Post-graduation in Environmental biotechnology from ManonmaniamSundaranar University, Tirunelveli. My post-graduation project was awarded by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), Chennai, for the Project title “Evolving a new concept for the conservation of biodiversity using the geographical information system (GIS)”. Later, I pursued my doctoral studies in Pondicherry Central University (2007-11), and my thesis was awarded with PhD degree entitled “A large-scale inventory of liana diversity and distribution in tropical forests of southern Eastern Ghats, India”. Afterwards, I was awarded Dr. D.S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship by the University Grant Commission (UGC), which was affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai (2012-15). During this period, I extended my research on “Documentation of plant diversity in different elevation gradients, assessed carbon stocks from woody biomass, and measured the level of forest disturbance in a part of Western Ghats”. Subsequently, I was working as a Guest faculty in the department of Ecology and Environmental Science, Pondicherry Central University in the academic year 2015- 2016. The current project that I have proposed is on the “Conservation of endemic tree species in the forests of Western Ghats, Tamil Nadu.”
