The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu wishes to engage a Project Fellow (Indian national only) under the project “Assessing anthropogenic threats to large carnivore population in the Western Ghats part of Tamil Nadu, southern India”. The project aims to address main drivers of human-large carnivore conflict through understanding ecological and socio-environmental variables, human attitudes, perspectives, landscape features, spatiotemporal patterns of conflict/depredation likelihood in carnivores, and capacity building of forest managers along the tiger and co-predators distribution range in the Western Ghats part of Tamil Nadu.

Duration: 4 years & 9 months


Emoluments: Rs. 18000/- + 20% HRA for first two years. Emoluments are likely to be enhanced after two years based on the work performance of the candidate.

Essential Qualification Post-graduate Degree in Zoology/Wildlife Science/Wildlife Biology/Environmental Science /Environmental Management/Conservation Biology from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks.
Desirable Qualification One year experience after PG Degree in field ecological studies that may include habitat ecology/human-wildlife conflicts. In order to interact with local people, candidates knowing the local language (Tamil and Malayalam) will be preferred.
Description of Work The engaged research personnel should be able to work independently in tough field conditions in the Western Ghats.


  1. Candidates applying for the “Project Fellow” position should possess the Essential Qualification as per the requirements given in this advertisement.
  2. Age shall not exceed 28 years as on the stipulated last date for receiving applications. In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and Physically Challenged, the upper age limit may be relaxed as per Government rules.
  3. Selected candidate will be engaged initially for a period of two years and upon satisfactory performance, services will be further extended as per project requirement.
  4. Candidate may be allowed hostel accommodation at Centre’s campus, as per the availability.
  5. The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on the interview to be held at SACON. Date and time of the interview will be intimated to shortlisted candidates after the scrutiny of the applications.
  6. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.
  7. Candidate(s) should send the duly filled-in applications along with self attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra-curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of interview for document verification. Applications without required enclosures and/or incomplete in any respect shall be rejected.
